Hydromulch utilises Erosion control blankets (ECB) for slope stabilisation and the establishment of vegetation on extreme civil sites. ECB’s are applied to slopes to prevent any further wind or water erosion of the insitu material and to assist with the retention of moisture in the side slopes.
Hydromulch favours ECB’s constructed of Jute material which is a coarse, open mesh of biodegradable fabric. The Jute’s woven mesh provides immediate erosion control and a stable medium to support healthy plant growth. Approximately 60% of the area is open, allowing light, water and nutrients to easily pass through to the underlying soil. Whilst the jute retains water, creating a localised water reservoir for the soil below, the open mesh provides a “trap” for soil, seeds, water and nutrients. With time, the jute material biodegrades, enhancing the soil fertilisation and the cohesive strength of the root systems. At this point the flexible nature of the plants become the primary stabilising and protecting element. Depending on climate conditions, the biodegradation period is typically 2-3 years.
